Did you know that some UK health cash plans may allow you to claim back some of the cost of reflexology treatments?
If you already have a health cash plan through your employer or one you've arranged yourself, it's worth checking your policy benefits before your next appointment.
Here's what you need to know.
What Is a Health Cash Plan?
A health cash plan is different from private medical insurance.
Generally, you pay for eligible everyday healthcare treatments yourself and then submit a claim to your provider for reimbursement, subject to the terms and financial limits of your particular plan.
Depending on the policy, benefits might include things such as dental and optical care, physiotherapy and other therapies.
Some plans also provide cover for reflexology.
Does My Health Cash Plan Cover Reflexology?
This is the most important thing to check before booking your treatment specifically because you intend to make a claim.
Reflexology isn't covered by every health cash plan, and even where a provider offers reflexology benefits, eligibility, practitioner requirements and the amount you can claim can differ between individual policies.
Check your current policy documents or contact your provider directly and ask:
- Is reflexology included in my particular policy?
- Does my reflexologist need to belong to a particular professional association?
- How much can I claim and what is my annual limit?
- What information needs to appear on my receipt?
- Are there any other conditions I need to meet before receiving treatment?
- That way, you'll know exactly where you stand before your appointment.
Claiming for Treatment at Solely You Reflexology
If your policy covers reflexology, let me know that you intend to make a health cash plan claim.
I'm a professionally qualified reflexologist and a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR).
I can provide you with a receipt for your treatment containing the appropriate information to support your claim.
However, acceptance of a claim is always determined by your individual cash-plan provider and policy, so I can't guarantee that a particular treatment will be reimbursed.
How Do I Make a Claim?
The process will depend on your provider.
Typically, you'll need to pay for your reflexology treatment and then submit your receipt according to your provider's claims process. Some providers now allow claims to be submitted online or through an app.
Always follow the instructions provided by your own insurer, as requirements can change.
Check Your Remaining Allowance
It's also worth checking how much of your allowance you have available.
Cash plans can have annual benefit limits, and the amount reimbursed may depend upon both your policy and the type of treatment you're claiming for.
If you have unused benefits available, you may discover that your plan can contribute towards treatments you were already planning to have.
